In one popular tale, the tortoise finds himself in a rivalry with the lion, the strongest animal in the land. Despite his small size and lack of physical strength, the tortoise uses his cleverness and strategic thinking to outsmart the lion and take his place as king of the animals.

What morals does this teach:

This story teaches that intelligence and creativity can triumph over brute strength. In a world where power is often glorified, the tale of Mbe reminds us that sometimes, thinking smart is more important than acting tough. The Price of Greed: Akwaeke and Her Stepmother

Another powerful tale centers around Akwaeke, a kind and gentle girl who loses her mother and is mistreated by her wicked stepmother. Hoping to get rid of her, the stepmother sends her into an evil forest, expecting her to perish. But instead of death, Akwaeke finds favor with the forest spirits. They reward her with a magical pot that brings endless blessings.

Consumed by envy, the stepmother sends her own rude and ill-mannered daughter to repeat the journey. But the spirits, offended by the girl’s insolence, curse her instead. The curse not only affects the daughter but also consumes the stepmother, and both meet a tragic end.

Moral:

This tale is a clear warning against greed and envy. In today’s world, where material success is often pursued at any cost, this story reminds us that character matters more than riches. When we let greed and jealousy guide our decisions, we risk destroying ourselves and those around us. True blessings come from integrity, kindness, and humility.

 The Hare and the Tortoise: The Power of Focus

In this well-known tale, the hare, known for his speed constantly mocks the tortoise for being slow. One day, he challenges the tortoise to a race, confident of an easy win. The tortoise accepts. When the race begins, the hare speeds off, leaving the tortoise far behind. Convinced he has plenty of time, the hare stops for a snack, then takes a nap.

But while he sleeps, the steady and determined tortoise keeps moving forward, and by the time the hare wakes up, the tortoise has crossed the finish line. The hare is left embarrassed and defeated.

Moral:

This story is a reminder of the importance of discipline and focus. In life, distractions are everywhere; social media, shortcuts, easy pleasures. But those who remain consistent and intentional will outpace even the most talented people who lack focus. Slow progress is still progress, and in the end, it’s the one who stays the course that wins.
